Zi Wei Dou Shu Interpretation – 4 Transformations of Stars

The concept of stars transformation originated from the Book of Changes (“Yi Jing”) – 易經 with the nature law of changes. This analogy can be further explained as to how the environment can be affecting you. Imagine if you are a tree, you will be blossoming with flowers and bearing fruits in Spring. In contrast, shedding and withering take place in winter but you are still the same tree.

In Zi Wei Dou Shu interpretation, the stars are transformed under the influence of time and space, based on the Heavenly Stem (天干) of the year. Thus the characteristics of the stars are further transformed and affect the palace accordingly.

Transformation Based On Birth Year

The star transformation is plotted using your birth year. For example, if you are born in the year 1968 with the last digit ‘8’ (refer to the chart above), the heavenly stem of that year will be Wu. The respective star’s transformation will influence your natal chart, thus impacting your entire life.

If your birth date falls on January or February, you might be confused if you should use the current or preceding year. Here is how you can determine it.

The changes of the heavenly stem are based on the Lunar Chinese New Year. For example, if you are born on 1st January 1988, the heavenly stem used should be 1987 – Ding (7) instead of 1988 – Wu (8).

Transformation Based On 10 Years Period

Concept of Flying Transformation (飛化)

Flying Transformation (飛化) is another technique used in Zi Wei Dou Shu using the heavenly stem. It can be used to determine the cause and the effect of a current situation. Based on the above example, you can find that the heavenly stem of the “Wealth” palace has transformed the stars in the “Spouse” palace to be “Hollowed”. It can be interpreted as the problem in this person’s love relationship is caused by his/her poor wealth management style.
